Riaz replaces Inzamam-ul-Haq, who stepped down from the job due to allegations of conflict of interest. He has a wealth of experience, having played 23 Tests and 57 one-day internationals for Pakistan. He has also coached at the grassroots level and worked with city and club teams. Despite his retirement from competitive cricket in 2006, he has kept in touch with the game and has remained active as a coach.
