Selection Committee

The purpose of a Selection Committee is to provide multiple perspectives to the hiring process and minimize the impact of bias. It is essential that the members of the Selection Committee reflect a variety of perspectives. This diversity of perspectives should include supervisors, peers, clients, and other key stakeholders. It is also important to consider human diversity, which will allow the members of the Selection Panel to bring their unique perspective to the applicant pool. Ideally, the Selection Council will have at least three members.

The members of the Selection Committee are appointed by the Chancellor or President, and must abide by the Code of Conduct. The University of Alberta’s Code of Conduct provides guidelines for selection committee members, as well as for those whose duties require them to serve on the Selection Committee. This document is available in PDF format and is available on the Human Resources Services website. The University of Alberta has a strict code of conduct that all committee members must follow.

The Selection Committee’s role is to identify and choose the program of business for committees, delegations, and private Members. They also choose which bills will be heard during the meeting. The chair of the Selection Commission should avoid conflict of interest among members. It is not uncommon for members of the Selection Committee to have previous conflicts of interest with the applicant. To protect against such conflict of interest, the Chair of the Committee should ask the applicants to inform him/her of any prior conflicts that could impact the process.

Depending on the role of the committee, members should have a good understanding of the nature of the position. The criteria for selecting a candidate must be fair and objective. Moreover, the committee members must agree to confidentiality obligations, which are outlined in the Code of Conduct. Once these requirements have been met, the Selection Committee is then free to proceed with the selection process. This step is crucial to ensure that the successful applicant gets the right job.

The selection process involves a variety of steps. A selection committee is made up of diverse members. The chairperson usually oversees the recruitment and selection process. The Chair must ensure that all members are aware of the University’s code of conduct and the Code of Professional Responsibility. A Committee member should have experience in the field of the position being selected. It is vital that all members of the Selection Committee have a good understanding of the Code of Conduct and adhere to it.

In addition to this, individuals serving on a Selection Committee must not discuss its business with people outside the selection process. This includes the number of nominations they have reviewed and the conflicts of interest of committee members. Applicants may also advise the chair of any prior conflicts of interest with committee members. If a member is unable to fulfill these requirements, they may be removed from the committee. This is essential for the process of selection. This ensures the quality of the selection process.
